Hostel at the Grimsel Pass
Felix Piel

Questions about a contemporary travel culture and alpine building characterize the design of a youth hostel on a mountain pass in the Alps.
In its simple & calm form, the building reacts quietly to the surrounding complex structure of the mountains. Structurally, the design is characterized by an additive handling of the mountain. Programmatically, various common areas and room types create a seasonally flexible offer and ensure a quality of stay all year round. The comfort of the rooms and the general character of the hostel is characterized by the simplicity and the raw materiality of the wooden construction. Nothing competes with the luxury of the surrounding nature.
