Mapping the Alps by bicycle
This is a project developed through a 25-day cycling journey from Barcelona to Innsbruck. Rather than understanding landscape as something observed from a distance, the work approaches it as something constructed through movement. Focusing on the Alpine region, the project traces how glacial erosion originally shaped the terrain. Valleys, passes, and routes that structure Europe today were not designed, but carved over time through the continuous movement of ice. Cycling through these same formations creates a parallel condition. Moving slowly across the landscape, we follow paths once defined by glaciers while simultaneously drawing our own trajectories through them.

This relationship between natural and human erosion forms the basis of the work. The Alps are not treated as a static object, but as an active system shaped through time, movement, and resistance. Gradients are no longer abstract lines on a map but become physical conditions felt through the body. Distance is understood not in kilometres, but in effort and duration. The project combines technical mappings with conceptual drawings to rethink how territory can be represented. Instead of fixed cartographic images, mapping is approached as a process that unfolds through sequence. Routes are constructed through experience, where shifts in elevation, speed, and terrain redefine how space is perceived and recorded.

Positioned between architecture and landscape, the work draws on ideas of movement and event to frame space as something produced rather than simply occupied. Cycling becomes both a method of research and a tool of representation, allowing the territory to be read through continuity rather than fragmentation.
