pavilion epikur

Designed for the Epikur Festival 2025, the project was conceived by Pius Rümmler, with construction management by Linus Mohr and lantern illustrations by Stefanie Herrmann. All pictures are taken by Flurina Kühne. More information and an interview about the pavilion can be found here

new/old

A galvanized steel structure once served as a storage rack for screws and fittings before being transformed into its own space for a few days at the Epikur Festival for Art and Music. Today, it has returned to its old function in a new location, the festival collective's warehouse.

mass/emptiness

From the outside, the pavilion appears as a monumental, dazzling volume. Upon entering the intermediate space, a delicate construction of supports, floors, and walls suddenly reveals itself. The entire structure begins to dissolve into its individual parts, telling its own tectonic story in a transparent and sober manner.

loud/quiet

In front of the stage, visitors let loose to rhythmic bass beats and engage in lively conversation at the bar. In contrast to the rest of the grounds, the pavilion's intermediate space offers structure and support. Individuals rest here before rejoining the whirlwind of people.

light/shadow

While the festival grounds are bathed in sunshine during the day, the narrow, shady space between the two shelf elements offers a respite from the heat. After sunset, this dynamic is reversed. Two embroidered sheets light up and fill the space with light. The pavilion becomes a meeting place. It takes on new significance on the festival grounds.
