collection 02 - in progress

We’re excited to announce that we are working on a new printed collection of arch & krach — and we’re looking for text contributions that explore architecture through writing, beyond drawings and images. We welcome reflections, narratives, speculations, and critical observations from anyone studying, teaching, or practicing architecture.

At its core, arch & krach examines architecture through a productive duality. “arch” refers to architecture as a structured, spatial and disciplinary practice, while “krach” describes the noise that surrounds it — frictions, side voices, artistic interventions and forms of cultural critique that disturb, question and expand architectural thinking. Together, they mark a field where architecture intersects with other practices such as writing, art, photography and theory.

Deadline for submissions: end of April.

Please note that we unfortunately cannot offer a fee for contributions at this time. arch & krach is an independent, self-initiated project that we currently run without external funding. The open call is therefore intended as a space for reflection, exchange, and shared exploration rather than a commissioned publication.

We invite three types of contributions:

1.  Student texts

(Architecture students and recent graduates)

We are looking for texts that emerge from studying architecture and reflect personal perspectives on learning, designing and questioning architecture.

Possible formats include short essays, fragments, notes, observations or experimental texts. Contributions can relate to studio work, side projects or individual investigations, but do not need to describe a finished project. We are especially interested in processes, uncertainties, shifts in thinking and moments of friction that are rarely visible in official presentations.

2. Texts from practice

(Architects, offices, collectives)

We invite architects and practices to contribute texts that reflect on their work beyond conventional project descriptions.

Possible contributions include reflections on design methods, collaboration, constraints, everyday routines, contradictions within practice, or the relationship between architectural intention and built reality. Texts may be analytical, narrative or experimental, as long as they offer insight into how architecture is thought and produced in practice.

3. Teaching & studio contributions

(Professors, lecturers, studios, research groups)

A central part of arch&krach Collection 02 is a focus on architectural education and teaching processes. We invite studios and teaching units to contribute texts that make their pedagogical approach visible.

We are interested in how studios are structured, how tasks are framed, which tools and methods are used, and what happens between assignment, process and outcome. Contributions may describe a specific studio, a longer-term teaching position, or a research-based format. Texts can be written individually or collectively and will function as micro-publications within the collection, offering insight into different teaching cultures across institutions.

If you are interested in contributing — or would like to receive more information — email us or contact us on instagram.     :)
